Yes, the "I was...Thanks for your comment, Jim. Yes, the "I was traumatised by clowns" fad is very tedious. Recently, instead of getting angry about it, I've been trying to find ways of turning it around. Partly that's about encouraging the return of the grotesque into cotemporary clowning (though that depends on the clown/student if that's oging to work).

I had a student not so long ago in a clow workshop who asked if we would be using red noses in the class. I said we would towards the end of the session, to which she replied that she wouldn't be able to watch, as she was afraid of clowns. I said that wasn't a problem for me if she didn't watch. When it came ot here turn to put on the nose and do the exercise, I had already started doing the exercise in pairs rather than solo, so we had the situation where she couldn't look at her clown partner on stage. It was very funny and very true. Hats off to her for not having a problem with her problem!Jon Davisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08194893891729058825noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5799091321474657380.post-37751383751387326892010-11-12T16:44:34.318+00:002010-11-12T16:44:34.318+00:00Great article. I have taught clowning in conservatories and universities for years, and thanks to pop culture, Stephen King's "It" for example, it appears that finding clowns scary has become "fashionable". I agree that clowns should be funny!

J. Eikrem
Central Michigan UniversityUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07149509972046225274noreply@blogger.com
